Countless businesses and retailers have approached sign installation companies to develop, manufacture and install signage for their business premises and also in the surrounding areas if external signs are permitted.
The main reason that sign installation is so sought after by business owners is that it is often those signs that first attract the attention of prospects who later become paying customers.
What might make some business owners unsure as to whether or not to approach a sign installation company, is not knowing what the process would be to go from their initial contact, through to the day of the sign or signs being installed.
Whilst each sign installation company will have its own process, they will all follow more or less the same path.
As such here is the normal journey that most sign installation companies, and you as their client, will follow.
Step #1 – Initial Discussions
Some regard this as the most important step because it allows you to convey to the sign installation company your ideas, hopes, and goals for the signs they will be making for you.
It also allows them to outline what signage is possible, features options, and recommendations based on successful signage they have installed.
Step #2 – Concept Development
From the initial discussions and briefings, the sign installation company will then task their designers to create several concept designs which will have variations based on size, imagery, colours, typography, and the materials used for the signage.
These will generate previews of the various sign concepts the designers have created. The company may also generate price quotations for each of them and ask you to select your favoured option.
Step #3 – Technical/Site Survey
Once you have selected the signs or signs that are going to be installed, the sign installation company will want to carry out a site survey.
This is where their installation technicians will check the locations where any signs are to be installed and ensure that no issues exist that could prevent installation.
Examples of what they check include terrain, power supplies, accessibility, and vehicular access.
Step #4 – Design Exemplars
Whereas the concept designs were 2D images, this is where your signs come to life as the sign installation company creates 3D imagery to let you see how your signs are going to look when they are installed.
These 3D models are also useful in circumstances where planning permission is required as it lets the appropriate authority see what the signs will look like when installed.
Step #5 – Final Design Approval
This is the final approval step whereby, having looked at the 3D images of the proposed sign, you give the sign installation company the green light to begin manufacturing your sign.
The approval will also contain details of the materials that will be used to create the sign and will confirm the sign’s dimensions.
Step #6 – Sign Manufacturing
This is probably where you can sit back and relax because what you need to do concerning the sign is complete.
Now, the sign installation company will send the specifications of your sign to their manufacturing facility for your sign to be transformed from a 3D image, into physical reality.
Step #7 – Sign Installation
The day has finally arrived when your sign’s installation is going to take place.
Depending on your business type and location, you may not even need to be there as many sign installation companies will take photographic records of the installation during and after its completion.
They will also ensure that all safety protocols are followed and will clear away any debris and equipment when the work is completed.
Bonus Step – Sign Maintenance
As a bonus step, and also as a service offered by most sign installation companies, you have the maintenance of your sign.
Some signs need more than others, but whichever level it requires, your sign installation company will have the support that allows for necessary repairs and replacement of damaged panels, for example.
